More New Backdrop

This photo is really a bit of a test. The scenery has been hacked about and then plonked back in place for this shot but I wanted to test the look of the new backdrop on Queens Wharf.

New Backdrop

A few months ago I picked up a new photo backdrop from Wuiske Models at the Brisbane exhibition. These backdrops were new to me and I made a snap decision to purchase them immediately. They have the great advantage to me that they aren’t the same as the ones I already have installed on Morpeth. The images aren’t as distance faded as the Haskell ones on Morpeth and the ones I chose are also “greener” which is ok but they are a bit of a contrast to those already on the layout. New Fascia

After everything was in place I cut and shut a new section of mdf fascia.

Chopped End

This photo shows the work just after I had cut 150mm from the end of the module. I re-used the piece of pine from this location prior to the work commencing. It took a fairly stout heart to start cutting up my recently completed work.

The New 5 ton Gantry Crane

As soon as I decided to alter the track and scenery on this section of Queens Wharf I started looking around for what lineside infrastructure might fit on the new siding. As I’ll use any excuse to buy a new model I hopped online and bought myslef a ModelFX 5 ton gantry crane. I’ve temporarily screwed the ready to use model in place so I can check clearances and take a photo. I haven’t even spiked the rails down in this image but I was keen to see what it would look like with the crane in place.

Thought I’d post a quick test shot with the new lens.

Bridging Gaps

This photo shows the small sections of track I’ve installed to bridge the gaps created in the benchwork of QW by drawing the modules apart.

Not A Crop Circle

This photo shows a bit more of the destruction wrought on my layout. The engine shed needed to be in this spot anyway!

Queens Wharf Renovation

This photo gives a pretty clear idea of the changes I’ve made to the Queens Wharf end of the layout. A new photo backdrop will be installed on the MDF backboard eventually, when I can afford one 🙂

Queens Wharf Installed

In this photo you can see the two gaps in between the segments of QW that I will be filling with short lengths of track. The layout has been stored for something like 3 years. It was in reasonable shape but it does need a bit of a clean and a spruce up.
