Metalworking, Tools & Useful Parts

  • ABC Gears Manufacturers of what I consider to be the worlds best gearboxes.
  • Adamstown Art Supplies This art supplier in Newcastle is the best (and cheapest) source I’ve found for Pan Pastels.
  • Eileen's Emporium Purveyors of everything good in terms of sheet metal and strip, especially nickle silver. This is a UK based outlet.
  • Hare & Forbes Great Aussie outlet for tools
  • Hobby Holidays A UK outlet for some very good parts including The Master Chassis, which I higly recommend, and hornblocks that incorporate ball races
  • Little Machine Shop Very good US internet outlet for bits and pieces of metalwork machinery
  • McJing Sydney outlet for a wide range of useful tools at good prices
  • Minitech Brisbane outlet for smaller lathes and mills
  • Station Road Baseboards UK outlet for some extremely useful baseboard parts.

Model Railway Blogs, Groups & Sites

  • 7mm AusModelling Yahoo! Group A great internet group devoted to 7mm/O-scale modelling in Australia. I’m the moderator so just apply for membership and I’ll approve you.
  • Aus7 Modellers Group Blog Blog for the Aus7 Modellers Group that has lots of good stuff to look at it. Edited by yours truly.
  • Bogong and Geehi Railway A great blog of a NG railway loosely based on the Vic narrow gauge lines. Lots to learn from Murray Scholz’s work here.
  • Bylong Ray’s blog about his HO layout Bylong is in my humble opinion one of the best blogs about a NSW layout around. Always intelligent and insightful. HO, but you can’t have everything.
  • East End Pilot A very interesting UK 7mm scale blog. Well worth checking out.
  • Gene Deimling's P48 Blog Gene describes the development of his P48 O-scale layout
  • Lambing Flat The Blog of James McInerney
  • ModelFX Interesting Blog about the building of a 1:43.5 NSW layout.
  • Modelling The Reading Company in P48 Another great blog about a US P48 layout
  • NSWGR Southern Line Layout In A Shed Rod’s blog about his NSW outline shed is well worth a read with high quality NSWGR HO modelling
  • Port Rowan The blog of a Canadian friend of mine, Trevor Marshall
  • SCR South Coast Rail is an excellent Australian blog about an HO railway.
  • The Model Railway Show Podcast model railway show that has sadly ceased being created. Happily all 52 eposides that were produced are still available.

O-Scale Manufacturers

  • Bergs Hobbies Retailer and manufacturer of a great deal of useful O-scale stuff
  • Haskell Co Haskell Co produces a range of useful products not the least of these being a range of excellent photo backdrops
  • Ixion Models Manufacturer of r-t-r 7mm models of UK and Australian outline locos.
  • Keiran Ryan Models A manfacturer or a range of useful bits and pieces for NSW O-scale modellers
  • Model O Kits An Australian manufacturer of a growing range of 1:43.5 building and locomotive kits
  • Outback Model Company Australian manufacturer of O-scale structure kits
  • Protocraft Couplers Protocraft is a great site aimed at P48 modellers but they sell a line of scale, magntic knuckle couplers that are ideal for Australian O-scale modelling use. This link leads to the coupler page.
  • Slaters Plastikard Slaterts has by far the widest range of O-scale (143.5 mostly) lococmotive and wagon wheels of any UK manufacturer. Don’t be fooled by the name, thjey sell a lot more than plastic sheet.
  • Veteran Models The premier manufacturer of Victorian outline 1:48, O-scale kits. Almost makes you wish you lived south of the border. Almost!
  • Wuiske Models Wuiske is a manufacturer of QR HO kits but they also sell a range of high quality photo backdrops that have application on layouts of any scale.

Retailers Who Specialise in O-scale

  • Gwydir Valley Models A retail outlet with lots of useful O-scale stuff especially NSWR scale wooded sleepers
  • The Railcar A great Australian source for O-scale bits and pieces
